Happy New Year!
“New Year, New Me” – the most common phrase of January as 2017 gets underway.
Have you started executing your resolution? Perhaps it’s to be more optimistic or to eat less junk food; maybe you want to try a new hobby or learn to play an instrument. Regardless of your goal or expectations for the year, it’s the perfect time to reset and take on the year ahead.
Many people couldn’t wait for 2016 to end. Whether it was due to the overwhelming losses seen throughout Hollywood and the sports world, Trump being elected or your own personal reasons, there was a general urgency to see the calendar flip to 2017.
Rather than reflect on the year, let’s look at the 7 most popular resolutions (per iQuanti, a data-driven digital marketing company) that people have chosen for the year:
- Get Healthy
- Get Organized
- Live Life to the Fullest
- Learn New Hobbies
- Spend Less/Save More
So, what’s the best way to stay committed to your resolution? That will depend on your motivation, lifestyle, and will to succeed. The best way to making your resolution stick (generally speaking) is to come up with a plan or a schedule – especially if you are beginning to do something that wasn’t a daily or weekly habit before. Mark down when and where you’re going to work out, read, or travel to. Keep track of your spending, learn to say no the new shoes and remind yourself of what you’re saving for. Do daily or weekly check-ins; are you pacing on target to reach your short-term goals? Keep a friend, family member or colleague in the loop with regards to your success; this will help keep you accountable for your actions.
Changing habits and achieving new goals is never easy. But what better time to start then today?
Here’s to 2017!
